About Red Duck
Our micro-brewery is just a quack and waddle from Lake Purrumbete. The crystal clear waters are home to salmon and trout, as well as being the home of a variety of water birds. Teals, musk ducks, grebes, cormorants, swamp hens and occasionally, Australian Shelducks, with their distinctive red chests. Purrumbete? From the local aboriginal language for round lake, Purrumbete is a very deep, fresh water lake, situated in a collapsed volcano. The first pioneers in the Western District chose to settle here and build the magnificent Purrumbete Homestead. Our micro-brewery is located in part of the old stables and coach house, which were originally constructed about 1870. What about the beer? All natural ingredients, nothing artificial, nothing to get in the way of real flavours and aromas. We start with fresh water, add malt, hops and yeast. Then we fret like a mother duck, until the beer turns out just right. Our beers are unfiltered, and naturally carbonated in the bottle. They have rich malt flavours, and low alpha acid hops, resulting in a smooth, balanced beer. We hope you enjoy them.
